GONZALO & CARMEN ABAYA MEMORIAL FOUNDATION, INC., (CGAMFI) was initially organized in 1986 as the Gonzalo T. Abaya Foundation, Inc. (GTAFI) in honor of the founding chairman of CEPALCO, the late MR. GONZALO T. ABAYA, who was remembered as the person who made things possible for what is now the 3rd largest private electric utility outside Metro Manila. The move to organize the Foundation was spearheaded by the employees of CEPALCO with funds coming from contributions and donations from friends, relatives and immediate family of the founder as well as its own employees. The funds were invested in short-term investments and its income were used to finance its scholarship programs and administrative expenses.

Later upon the demise of the better-half of the founder, MRS. CARMEN CHAVES ABAYA, the Foundation was renamed joining the name of the couple to GONZALO & CARMEN ABAYA MEMORIAL FOUNDATION, INC., (CGAMFI) .

GCAMFI was organized to further understanding, goodwill and friendly relations in the community and among people through the fostering of tangible and effective projects of philanthropic, charitable, benevolent, educational, and other eleemosynary nature.

From 1986 up to the present, it has sustained scholarship programs to elementary and high school beneficiaries and to college engineering students.

GCAMFI, with its modest capability at the moment provides full scholarship grants to poor and qualified children who are interested to enroll and complete their elementary or secondary education.
